I designed my advertisement for Online Gamers Anonymous (Olganon). They are a non-profit organization that tries to help video game addicts overcome their addiction. I made the colors dark to contrast with the normally vivid imagery of games, it symbolize the downside of being an addict. The mushroom, taken from Mario, is an item that gives the player an extra life. The mushroom is something that is universally recognized by gamers. The intent of the heading, “Find a life somewhere else”, is to make the addicted gamer think critically about what they are losing in reality while they are playing video games.

The video from CBS overviews the topic of video game addiction. A doctor of Neuroscience from UCLA starts by telling us what determines something being classified as a psychiatric disorder: consistency, reliability, and universality. He then goes into the symptoms of video game addiction, which he says are almost identical to other disorders. Symptoms include: Preoccupation, loss of interest, irritability, depression, and a drop in grades. The video ends when he tells us the best way to confront somebody about the problem is to have an open discussion instead of taking the game away. Facts begin to flash onto the screen towards the end. They provide some basic information about video games and reveal that as many as 5 million kids may be addicted.
